Hurrah!

There are many things I could write about today...work is good; I feel healthy today after thinking I was coming down with a lurgy yesterday; after much deliberation, I think I have finally come up with my "3" (see Pom's post here) and discovered Husbink's at the same time; the sun is shining and it feels like spring here; fluff is everywhere...but all these possible topics for your entertainment pale into insignificance compared to one: slippers. Oh yes, marvellous, wonderful, multi-coloured (though they don't have to be), comfy, cosy slippers.
Today when I got home from work, the long awaited posted-by-sea parcel from my mum was on the doorstep. This means that I have two more pairs of trousers, an extra skirt, an extra top, a book and...slippers!
These are the slippers that I bought in Thailand following a number of sleepless nights... We (myself and Kathleen) had been in Thailand for four nights I believe at this point. We'd arrived from Sydney and my last few nights there had involved very bad sleep for one reason or another (the snoring person in the hostel room, the accidental leaving of wallet at brother's house the night before we were due to fly...). So following a long flight that made it some ridiculous time in the morning and arriving to a proper hotel in Bangkok with air conditioning and no one in the room other than us to disturb our sleep I thought great! Sleep ahoy! But no. And this trend continued for the next few nights in the next hotel (on a wee island, was lovely!) with me getting more and more tired and less and less coherent... We moved on and arrived in Pattaya, a strange place of tourist nature and weirdness (but we had a lot of fun there). We were staying in a lovely hotel and across from it was a mall. A big shiny air conditioned mall (with the lack of sleep, the heat was also not going so well for me). And in that mall they sold, amongst many other things, lovely, lovely slippers. As soon as I saw them I knew they were what I needed to give me a good night full of sleep. And indeed that night, with the slippers on the floor next to my bed, I did indeed have a marvellous sleep for the first time in days! And today, I have been reunited with said slippers and feel almost the same sense of joy. I know many of you will be distressed to hear that it is not my giant pink slippers that I have arrived but I want to reassure you that it is ok! These slippers will do just fine for now!
Time to go and try one of Mad Medea's ginger nuts that I've just made for the first time (thank you thank you)

That's such a great story; really like the idea of you being reunited with your Happy Slippers. It wasn't until my grey felt Accessorise slippers with the pretty flowers arrived that I could go "Aah, now I feel at home".

Slipper reunion - hurrah and huzzah! I must find myself some comfy slippers as my current ones are a bit lethal for going up and down stairs.... anyway.... do we get to know your "3"?

MM.

P.S. I hope the ginger nuts were delicious - I have sat down and eatern an entire batch with a friend before now.

I have spent my entire snuffly morning (boo for another cold) wearing my "uncle Ralph slippers" and it makes me feel better! :) x

Parcels are so exciting. Especially parcels containing slippers.

Ooo, shall have to figure out my 3. Hum. *thinks*

Tell us about your ginger nuts?!! (Why did that sound weird?)

Very exited you have a date to come home. Gives us hope you might actually, come home!! Yeah!

P.S. Boo to Welshy's cold. :p

Pom - Hurrah for your slippers too! :) Am glad you understand the home-making-ness of slippers. :)
Mad Medea - Hope you find some un-neck-breaking slippers too, mine are a bit slippy but as we now live in a bungalow it isn't soooo bad, the only thing I can't do is open our pedal bin with them on! My three... Brendan Fraser (which is good cos the top of Husbink's list is Rachel Weisz so we really enjoy watching the Mummy/Returns!); Ewan McGregor (but I think not in real life, I didn't warm too him when reading "The Long Way Round"); Hugh Jackman (such a nice man!). And I can well imagine eating an entire batch of ginger nuts in one sitting...had to work hard not to! And Husbink thoroughly approves too. Though we think we will increase the ginger next time...
Welshy - hope you are feeling better! And the slippers keep helping if you aren't...I have a slight problem that the name of your slippers makes me think of "Uncle Ralph's Game"...don't know if you know it...
Snoo - Looking forward to hearing your three! Mine is pretty changeable...ooh, I've just thought of another one but I don't think he knocks anyone out...and it is only in two films...as you will see above, ginger nuts were fab. And yes, it does sound a bit weird...dodgy...we will definitely come home and see you...we don't promise how long for though! ;)
Mwah to all!

Tell me about Uncle Ralph's Game! (Is it something I can then share with Uncle Ralph?) xx

PS The cold seems to have abated. Hmm... This makes me suspicious because it will come back tonight and make the whole weekend unbearable!

My brain is so frazzled and it's only day 3. Hope you don't mind me procrastinationg in your comments!!

It's so hard getting to down to 3. I have 5!! I've thought long and hard about this and I'm sorry to James Marsters, but he looks too much like my bro now he's shaved his hair. My final 3 are Jensen Ackles, David Duchovny and Hugh Jackman (Agree, very yummy and a great guy too). Husband managed to think of three as well, and I thouroughly approve!

Welshy - Ahem. Uncle Ralph's game...probably not to be shared with Uncle Ralph! The game requires a group of people...the people all drink a bottle of whisky. One of them leaves the room. Those still in the room have to work out who left. The second round involves a second bottle of whisky each followed by someone leaving the room. This time, the person who left the room has to work out who left the room...I can't remember where the game came from but I have a strange feeling it is from an Adrian Plass book! Hope the cold stays away. xxx
Snoo - Procrastinate any time! It's lovely to "see" you! (skype skype skype) Hurrah for agreement on Hugh! (Husbink is reading over my shoulder and said that as he is one of my three, I must be on first name terms with him and can no longer use a surname!) We had to look up Jensen Ackles...but he looks nice! Husbink says he assumes you remember him from Sweet Valley High... Do we get to know your husbands too? (Husbink's second is Felicity Kendal) xxx

SuzySnoo said...

Felicity Kendal rocks! What's Andy's third?
Didn't know Jensen Ackles was in sweet valley high. I've seen pictures of him young and he looks a bit too ucky and pretty for me. We watch him in Supernatural.
Husband's are Gillian Anderson (yes we are huge X-files fans!), Katie Sackhoff (Starbuck from Battlestar Gallactica), and Jolene Blalock (T'pol from Enterprise). I think there is a sci-fi theme here!
Yes let's Skype soon. This weekend?

AdventuringJen said...

Yup, I approve the Felicity Kendal choice! Husbink's third is a bit changeable - but at the moment he's pretty confident it is Emilia Fox (mostly due to Randall & Hopkirk:Deceased). I'm only 100% confident that I've heard of Gillian Anderson of Husband's three - but appreciate the theme-y-ness. We could do our Monday morning - say 9am-ish, your Sunday at 8pm? Very exciting!

Hang on, hang on! Surely Philippa Forrester got in there somewhere with one of them?! After the evening in the pub where I almost got scared I would have to dump the Tart for not being a "real" man?! ;) xx

SuzySnoo said...

Philippa's got tough compatiton here. I mean we're talking chicks with guns!! Erm, I mean my hub's choice, not Felicity Kendal. That would just be strange.

Sunday/Monday sounds great. You sure it'll be 8pm?? It's confuzzling.

Amy said...

Sadly, I'm not sure guns will be what cuts it for the Tart... I fear he might be a bit more predictable than that!
Good luck with the skyping - I'm assuming that's what all the organising is for?!

SuzySnoo said...

Ok, boobs and guns!!
;)
Have you got a 3 Welshy??!

AdventuringJen said...

Oooh confusing amount of conversation!
Welshy - PF really ought to be in there...I shall remind him and see if it removes the variable number 3.
Snoo - yup, it will be 8pm, we are 13 hours ahead now since you came off daylight savings and got a lie in!!
Guns & Boobs? Could that be the title of a novel somewhere...! ;)

My 3 were:
1. Frank Lampard
2. Nigel Harman
3. Ben Shephard
although I must confess I had to go back and find where I'd written them down! Tee hee! I think I would change Frank Lampard for Mark Ramprakash at the moment (it's Strictly Come Dancing!) and I wondered if Ben should be replaced by someone more exciting... Like Hugh if I fancied him but I don't. Ok, so my revised three now is:
Mark; Nigel; and that terribly attractive doctor (Strachan) from Holby City.
I was worried when I had to think about it because I could think of lots of unfamous people but not many famous ones!
I am going to grill the Tart for his 3 later!
"Guns n boobs": definitely a box office topper methinks!
x

Amy said...

PS Uncle Ralph will love it! I shall tell him next time I see him!

AdventuringJen said...

Husbink says...Mark Ramprakash always mucks it up on the big occasions! And he's all in a quandry over his three now. Doesn't know what to do...he's wondering if he might be allowed four PLUS any female Newsround EVER. (He asks why none of us have put Krishnan G-M on ours?)
We are concerned that our 3s are very mainstream and boring. We shall attempt to find obscure Kiwi rock legends or something like that to put in...
Tee hee hee for Uncle Ralph!
Mwah!
xxx

Amy said...

Le Tart is also very scathing of Mark; somthing along the lines of "hmmm, I wish he'd done as much for England cricket! Herrumph!", usually!
I don't know about Krishnan... I never had that thang for Newsround/newsreaders...
Le Tart is currently pondering his third; I will be amazied if Sara Blizzard (local weather reader, yes really!) isn't there!

SuzySnoo said...

What is it with blokes and female newsreaders?!
I am also concerned that my hub doesn't have a cute nickname. (Well nothing I can share here anyway!)

Amy said...

You think "le Tart" is a cute nickname?! Tee hee! I think you need to think of one for your hub. When le Tart and I were first together he called me a twonk and when I challenged it he said it's a term of affection, like 'snugglemuffin'! I questioned who called anybody snugglemuffin and he said that lots of people do! So perhaps you should refer to the hub as that. Although I quite like 'the hub'... It has a good ring to it! Other suggestions: the tall bloke, him indoors, the hamster's dad...(do you still have your hamster?)

SuzySnoo said...

It shall be The Hub (see with the capitalization?!!), until I think of something better.
Yes we still have the cute smelly one. She's weeing in all the wrong places. I think it's old age!!

AdventuringJen said...

I think the newsround/news reader thing is definitely a male one! I've never got it. I guess it is part of the whole librarian who removes her glasses, lets down her hair thing...maybe?! Sara Blizzard?! That's fantastic! Glad to see we have The Hub sorted with a name, I had been struggling to refer to him! I no longer call Husbink that since it started being his name here. Odd. I now call him something really weird. No idea where it came from. Just made up some words one day and started calling him them. Most peculiar!
Snoo - lovely, lovely, lovely to see you both this morning...sorry we were so random...
Miss you all
